Default problems with my audi just bought

Just bought a 2000 audi a4 1.8T quattro automatic and it has a few problems and any suggestions would be great and since i just got it I don't know if they are related or not.

First the car has check engine light but when i take it to down to get the code it won't connect and the fuse is okay.

Second the car is sputtering under acceleration especially bad around 5500 RPM 40 mph and 80 mph.

Third after driving around for about 30 minutes and then putting the car in Reverse when i push the gas pedal the car shakes very violently.

Any suggestions thanks.

Sputtering is probably your spark plugs and/ or coil packs. Hard to tell which cylinder(s) when you can't connect a scanner. Try a different scanner, maybe you'll get lucky. If you do get to pull your codes, write them down and post them, they will help coniderably.

The whole reverse things sounds like a trans problem to me, and I have no clue what to tell you.

Welcome to the forums, I hope the collective experience in here can help guide you through your problems. Make sure you read the stickies at the top of the thread list. There is a wealth of knowledge in there that will keep you from asking the same questions everyone else asks over and over.

when you replace coils replace them all and the spark plugs so the issue wont come back but if your on a budget part it out

Re the reverse gear, I would probably have the trans fluid checked and changed if necessary.
