Default Problem Rear Brake Caliper Piston

Well I'm doing my rear brakes on my 99.5 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro, and I bought new rear pads and rotors, and I had to also go out and buy that special tool you can put on your 3/8 ratchet to push the piston back in, anywho I bought it and tried using it and I noticed nothing is happening to the piston its just spinning in there, and making pressure in the lines or whatever, however its not going in anymore and its not getting harder to push either.. Do I have to go buy new calipers? What should I do? =X

Did you release the parking brake?

I used a wrench to screw the piston back into the caliper, that worked fine. Didn't need any fancy equipment...
Just pushing them in did practically nothing, though.

Hey, I know that this is an old thread, but I ran across this problem yesterday and I just wanted to share my advice....

If you have the correct tool, then it's cake.. just push n twist n it should work. My friend accidentally forgot his tool at his grandpa's place so we had to push it in the ghetto way. If you have the tool n it's not working then this might work for you as well...

I would just suggest you g-clamp the ish out of it while also turning wit a wrench or vice grips. After a while the piston became to move in easier, so my friend just kept turning the piston while I pushed super hard on it using the rubber back of a torque wrench. Again, super ghetto... but it worked for us haha (this was obviously a two person job.. fyi)

Might as well add here that the brake reservoir cap should be removed so that the piston can screw back in more easily.

Default A stucked piston

i m replying in this old thread but i hope it will be useful for anyone who will face the same problem for his audi.

using grease gun and pressurized air are different tricks to remove brake caliper but it requires some extra skill and experience.

Releasing pressure cap or brake bleeding may be the trick to remove trapped air which can cause stucked piston in the vehicle.

if oil is contaminated with impurities or foreign particles then piston could be seized so it is better to replace whole piston caliper assembly or coat piston with high temperature silicon based lubrication.

WTF are you talking about? C clamps don't do it on a screw-in brake piston. Delete the link from your sig also - sig links are a quick route to being banned from AF.

Oh I agree, but I figured it was worth calling out his bad advice in case someone finds this later and actually wonders about the validity of his claims.
