Default Problem with overheating and oil temp

Hey guys, I have a 1997 audi a4 b5 2.8 with 188k miles on it. I did the water pump, timing belt, thermostat at 154k. I have noticed that when I drive the car it will heat up past half to about 3/4 temperature when im at an idle or low speed but it will not overheat when i drive at faster speeds. Also my oil temperature gauge is no longer working. If someone can give me some input on what i should do or if any1 else has had this problem please help me out. Thanks in advance for anything that is posted for this.

How recently did the overheating behavior start? It's not uncommon for thermostats to require replacement well before their service interval is due, especially if they are a lesser quality. And the behavior you're describing sounds like a stuck closed thermostat.

Only thing I can think for your oil temperature is to find out where the oil temp sensor is and trace the wiring to it. Maybe a connector simply came unplugged.

The oi ltemp sender should be mounted on the oil filter/cooler mount pad, facing the rear of the engine. This is a combination sender/switch feeding the oil temp gsuge, oil pressure gage, and the low oil pressure lamp.

well it just started here recently. I found out that the radiator has been leaking a while back and ive been having to fill it up with water. Well now i believe my radiator is corroded or something around there. As for my oil temp sener. I went and bought both of them. The pressure and tempature sender. But i cant find either one of them.

Have you checked your fluid levels in the radiator? If it is leaking I would recommend replacing that to start. Are your radiator fans coming on? This should happen long before you reach 3/4 on the gauge.

Let us know!

Have a great day

Well i checked the reservoir and it was extremely low. i filled it with water and it hasn't overheated. only question is now what do i do to fix the leak. it is leaking from the radiator top. the large hose that comes from the reservoir into the radiator is the one that's leaking but Italy leaking from the start of the hose. Like its not tight but its as tight as it will go. it looks corroded what should i do to fix the leak and clean it out?? is regular radiator flush ok to use??

distilled water flush but if it looks corroded, such as orangeish rusty? that means green and g12 coolant were mixed and your rads probably clogged up.

This could be an issue. I would repair the hose at fault, perform a flush and then check for any remaining leaks or issues. These two things will be inexpensive and just take a little of your time.

After this if it continues to leak and you can determine the radiator is the source then replacement or repair is likely necessary.

Yes it is a orange rust looking corrosion. i will replace the hose and reservoir both and then do a flush to see if it helps. What about the oil temp gauge? Is there a DIY to change or or even some pictures to locate it?? Also i checked ecs tuning and i dont know which reservoir tank and hose i need...how can i tell? I have a 1997 audi a4 2.8 12v
