You didn't even need to do that since oil has already be used on the turbo before it was boxed up.

No different then when you leave the car parked over night and all the oil has drained out of the turbo.

Doesn't matter if it is brand new, every single turbo is spun at a high rate before it is boxed up to make sure the turbo is fully balanced. When you pull the turbo out of the box it should have caps/plugs on the oil/coolant openings to keep the oil residue from dripping out and to keep dust out.

If that is the case then all you have to do is drip a few drops into the oil feed hole in the turbo before you put the line on.

It wasnt a new k04, btw. Well I finally took it out tonight and it went just ok...I have a boostleak somewhere so I'll be spending tomorrow looking for it. God only knows where this one(s) could be, but it was to be expected. I do have a weird question. The EGR valve thats on the back on the motor...if I get the block off plate for it, is there anything else I need to do besides that? I don't have a secondary air pump anyway.

If you dont have a pump then you dont need anything else. If you need one I have a bunch of the IE block off plates.
