Default Pretty hard bump when letting off the accelerator

I've searched and can't find anyone complaining of the same sort of thing I'm experiencing lately.

Sometimes, if I'm in any kind of boost (from a little to quite a bit), if I let off the accelerator, there's a very noticeable bump as soon as I let off the gas. I can't tell if it's coming from the front, middle or rear of the car. I can't really hear any clunk or thump.

I notice this A LOT in stop and go traffic. I also notice it more if I'm going 45-50MPH in 5th gear (auto tranny)...if I accelerate to maintain speed up a small hill, and let off the gas at the top, that bump happens. That scenario is why I say it happens when I'm running even the slightest bit of boost.

I don't notice any sort of noise when I accelerate, with the occasional clunk in the rear when it downshifts from 5th to 4th, and occasionally when the car downshifts from 2nd to 1st when coming to a stop. That's much more infrequent than the first problem described.

Thoughts?

I have the same, and have ordered new snub and tranny mounts. Feel your gear stick lever (manual?), does it jump? Mine jumps alot of you have it in first or second, less noticeable in higher gears. Also there is some play in the lever, and it jumps a bit when going fast. Also jumps when you drive on small or big bumps.

I've got a Tiptronic.

What's the best way to test which mounts need replacing? Ideally, replacing all of them would be best...and eventually, I'm sure I will. I just don't want to do them all at once right now.

well you only need one tranny mount and one snub mount, you can get both for under 100

There's more than one of each...plus the mount for the diff. I'm thinking that clunking I hear toward the rear is the diff mount.

I don't know about automatic, but mine logically has two.

thats pretty much how the mountings are, snub mount, left and right engine mount, and left and right tranny mount. Very easy to see if you get under your car.

034's website "Mounts will fit all B5 chassis 4 and 6-cylinder cars including Passat, A4/S4, note, only fits passenger side of 1.8t cars, please visually verify your application before you order."

You also need the rear diff mount replaced.
