Default Pressing a wheel bearing in Columbus Oh

Anyone in the Columbus area know of a shop that would press out an old bearing and press in a new one that I provide? That is assuming I'm able to wrench the housing off to bring it in.

I know any of the usual Audi shops, including the dealers could do it. But I'm wondering how willing they would be to assist an DIYer.

Thanks

I would think a local garage that does Audi/VW would be happy to install your new wheel bearing into you housing.

Which one are you tackling...front or rear?

I hope your well equipped....

I just did my pass side rear last night at my friends shop who specializes in Audi/ VW/ Porsche.

May be a good idea to get a new draw bolt that holds the axle in place as in every case they are stubbon to remove and sometime (like last night) you have to torch the head off the bolt to remove it from the car.

Took about 2 hours... we did the pass front in the spring of 08' and instead of disturbing the upper control arms by removing them from the spindle casting we removed them from the body of the car.

I need to do the driver rear. Its the one thats growling at me. I'm thinking I might want to do both rear while I'm messing with it.

As I said I just did my pass rear last night and mine has been growling for almost a year.

Have you done one before?

I'd say tackle one at a time.

You have to take the rear seat lower cushing out to disconnect the ABS sensor if it will not come out easily from the spindle casting.

Well I just finished replacing the radiator, ac condenser and fans (collision). Did the rear rotors and brakes last summer. But no, Ive never take the suspension apart.

And I never expected I'd have to tear in to the back seat to do the wheel bearing?!?

Do you have an A4 shop manual?

Your going to need replacement axle draw bolts and tq specs.

I could not remove the ABS sensor from the spindle casting with out wrecking it so the next thing is to follow the wire into the body and disconnect it at it's next connection which is in the floor under the lower rear seat cushing.

Yea, the Bentley says to replace some other bolts too. The axle bolt is included with the new bearing. I'll have to look at the book again to see what the other stuff is. I've just got a cheapo Harbor Freight torq ratchet, but so far I haven't stripped anything and nothing has fallen off

Thanks for the first hand advice. I may have more questions once I dig in to it.

Thanks Steve. That's the kind of inside info I was hoping for.
