It was the ICM, ended up ordering it, got it, cleared the code, installed it and re cleared it to be safe and it is running like a charm!! Just an update is all , for the next person who searches for similar issue.

Hey guys I am having pretty much the same issue you had. I was wondering if I should go the same route? if so do you guys know of a DIY on how to replace the ICM?

So several months ago my Audi A4 1.8T 05 began to misfire as I was accelerating so I had to shift at lower RPMs. I thought it was a clogged injector so tried some injector cleaner but no success. this past week my car began to sputter when I turned it on and the CEL started blinking and then just stayed on. I changed the plugs and the coils (made sure the gap for the plugs was right) and erased the CEL. It was fine for a day w/o CEL but a lil sluggish. This morning the same stutter appear and the blinking CEL and then it stayed on. I am a student and would like to stay away from paying a mechanic if I can do myself but dont wanna throw parts at it blindly either. Thank thou guys.

Default P0302

hi guys. Sorry to bring up such an old post but I’m having the same issue that the original poster had on his car. And it seems a new ICM fixed it - just wondered which model car the OP had at the time.

I have a 2008 B7 TFSI and getting P0302, wondering if it’s the ICM on mine as Iv changed the coils and plugs and compression is fine also…..

any advice appreciated

The original poster has a 1998 or older A4 which uses an Ignition Control Module that 2000 and up A4’s didn’t use. Newer models use coil on plug ignition coils that you see on your car. If you have swapped plugs and coils but the fault stays on that cylinder, you may want to try swapping an injector but it a not as simple as the 1.8T that this B5 section is aimed at. I’d try posting in the B7 forum and see what they say.

Sorry the ICM was used up to 2000. Anything newer is coil on plug.
