Overdrive?

Overdrive?
I found an estimate for bodywork from the previous owner stuffed in my owners manual (bastard never told me about damage), and it's listed on the estimate that the car has overdrive. My car is a tip car. Does it have overdrive? Or is it just a five speed and overdrive is a misprint of some sort? The body work was not done at an Audi stealer but rather a local GM stealer.

that's messed up. no b5s don't have overdrive but the 5th gear is basically considered the overdrive gear. i believe many cars in 98 were still 4 speed with overdrive. and if you had overdrive, you'd have a button that probably has O/D on it or sm

Thanks, that's what I thought. If I remember correctly from high school (I took auto body and learned how to estimate), after you type the VIN in there's a list of options and you have to select the options the vehicle came with. So I bet the estimator just clicked auto w/ OD instead of tiptronic. I also know some people cross terms, as in they call a 4 spd. w/ OD a 5 spd. or visa versa.

Any gear lower than a 1:1 ratio is "overdrive" (example: 0.8:1). 4th on a 5 speed tip is about 1:1, 5th is your overdrive. Almost all cars since the introduction of 4 speeds have an "overdrive." Many 6 speed sticks have 5th and 6th gears as overdrive with 4th being 1:1.
So to answer your question, yes, your Tip has overdrive, as do all our sticks. It's just not a button because you can manually select the gears via the tip switches (or stick shift).

^go to your model and look at the transmission gear ratios listed.
