The rear diff does not actually lock at all on B5 Quattro. EDL takes the place of an actual diff lock.

EDL is part of Quattro. It is integrated into ESP if ESP is optioned, however, ESP does not have to be optioned to have EDL. As of 1996, all B5 Quattros have EDL.
