Oil Temperature Sender/Sensor

Oil Temperature Sender/Sensor
1997 Audi A4 2.8 V6 12v. The oil temperature gauge has not worked on this car for years - not sure how long exactly (it is all the way to the left). I am into the car doing repairs and maintenance. Anyone know for sure where this sensor is. I have been told by audi parts dept. that it is located just to the right and up a bit of the camshaft pully... number 9 here Audi Switches and senders on engine oil pressure switch and transmission oil pressure gauge sender temperature switch thermal switch oil temperature gauge sender temperature sender temperature sensor back up lamp switch back up lamp switch switch for
Anyone know of this is in fact the case. In order to just see let alone repair this I would have to put the car in service position.
And the real question is does it even really need to be fixed (is it worh it).
This is the part from ECS https://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_A4..._12v/ES276668/
Thanks in advance.. this has been a pain to determine.

update
An update.. I went and looked at a Chilton manual and it said the very same location of the #9 in the original post was not the temperature sending unit but the oil pressure sending unit.
According to ECS website there is an oil pressure switch part too that sends info to the ECU. Further search says it is near the oil filter.
So is the Chilton manual wrong? Basically I am still where I started. Determining if the part located in the position of #9 is the temperature sending unit and is it necessary to change. Is there a way to check this to determine if the part is bad or if it is the gauge.
Thanks.

I know we have different engines, but I've replaced every oil related sensor (including that one) and my gauge still doesn't work (many people have had the exact same experience).
I 90% certain it's the gauge itself at this point

Based on your answer I will go with the assumption of bad gauge diagnosis. And since I would have to replace the cluster to get the gauge fixed, it will remain as is, especially since it wont affect the car in any way.
Thanks again for your help/time.

Word to the wise (for future reference).
What really made me think: "F*CK! Why didn't I think of that?", was when I had my LCD repaired. That was the perfect opportunity to get the gauge fixed also, but I didn't even think about it at the time. I was too worried about the damn LCD, so if you ever have your LCD repaired, see if you can get the gauge fix also (while the cluster is already out).
G/L w/everything.

I know what you meanIt was on one of my lists but I forgot all about it. I hadn't even looked where it was yet. Then I had the car in service position and was so focused on everything else. It wasn't till after I took it our of service position (bumper is still off though) and was flushing the coolant that I was sitting in the drivers seat and noticed that damn gauge. At that moment I searched where it was and here I am annoyed that I didn't remember and at least look at it when everything was unbolted. If I ever have to fix anything in the cluster I am fairly confident I won't forget now.
Thanks for your advice and help.
