Default Oil temp gauge maxed out!!

I have a 96 a4 Quattro and now suddenly my oil temp gauge is maxed out idk if maybe I bumped the wire while doing my timing belt and water pump or what!? I didn't have this problem before and I just noticed it! I have already looked up its location and I am dreading of it is bad but is there usually anything else that could be causing this?... Oil cooler plugged (if it has one, I can't seem to find anything on one!) car seems to be running great still and doesn't smell un-usually warm... So I don't know what's going on... I am going to let the car cool and see if it changes or not but I don't know I just spent a little bit of money getting this car moving again and I don't want it quitting on me already

What did the coolant temp gauge read? My bet would be that the sensor is bad/unplugged.

Your driving without a tach and speedo? Pure genius.
Anyways, more than likely it's just your cluster if it stayed at max after the car is turned off

I use GPS on my phone for speedo lol... And no gauge drops when key is off so I'm thinking its either sensor or I have a short

Ya. Especially if you are a manual that is tuned, running without a tach is just plain stupid.
