Default oil pan replacement...

i did a really embarrassing thing by looking over a huge dip and bottomed out my car at about 40mph i cracked the lower oil pan and i'm pretty sure the upper oil pan as well but everything else looks to in the same condition as before this happened. i'm really tight on cash and have those items in the mail now...i was just wondering if anyone can help me out and have any suggestions on what to do/not to do... my dad has been in the chrysler business for about 30 years but obviously not audis. please help me! all questions/suggestions open!

Normal procedure man as all with any car make sure you clean the surface of where the pan contact's the block so you wont have any leak's install the new gasket or what ever it's called i forgot the specific name.Start it up and check for leak's And make sure to put in oil when you start it back up lmao and boom there you go i dont think these car's take any special procedure in installing the oil pan but i might be wrong.

Good luck. You have to drop the front subframe to get the oil pan off.

we actually dropped the oil pan without dropping anything else. just had the right tools and tool a good hour or so. the crack is pretty small on the upper oil pan...for a temporary fix how does sealing ikt sound?

Just replace it. You already have it off. Sealing it might work for a little. In AZ that would not work. It would just leak.

If it's not a large crack, TIG welding may be a cheaper solution.

But since you already have it off, replacing it is always a good idea.

well i only dropped the lower oil pan, not the upper.that would require the other parts to be dropped as well. i'm hoping i can atleast seal the upper one somehow for a temporary fix so i can replace it appropriately when i have the money but i just got a new job and need a way to get there so i can get some money to take care of my car

so welding you say is a cheaper solution ?

by the way thank you guys all so much for your help!

i cracked my oil pan and jsut had it welded. it's aluminum so make sure you take it to somebody who knows what they're doing or they'll created huge pores in the weld and it'll still leak

Welding is a cheaper, more permanent solution.

JB Weld is a less permanent solution.
