Oil Pan Removal and pump/screen Replacement
#11
Thanks for the reply..
Think it would be worth the extra $$ to replace the screen/tube and the oilpump? Or are these pumps pretty heavy duty enough where the majority of the problem is in just the tube and screen being blocked up?

Yup, like you were saying the tube is usually the issue and the rest of the pump is fairly meaty in design. However there is an oil relief valve i believe on the side and mine looked pretty gunked up in there. So if you are in there you might as well change the whole thing out. Wait a second yours is driven by a chain if i am not mistaken. Mine was not. Mine was shaft driven. I am not quite sure what the procedure for removing a chain driven one would be. I am sure there is a simple procedure to follow. I am sure it is my book at home. That is why people more or less asked you for your engine code. Different pumps.

The engine is an AWM.
It would be wise to spen the extra dollars and replace the oil pump along with the pick-up tube/screen.
With the oil pan off, the oil pump can easily be removed by first loosening the bolt holding the chain sprocket to the oil pump shaft and then pull the sprocket off the pump. Then, loosen and remove the three bolts securing the oil pump to the engine block. The oil pump should just pull off at this point. To re-assemble, pull down on the oil pump drive chain and angle the pump and sproket to engage the chain. Continue to maneuver the oil pump untils it's legs align with the alignment barrels. Secure the oil pump with the three bolts, torque to specification (i do not remember the torque spec).
The amount of effort to get to the oil pump is too great to be worth the savings of just a few dollars, While the benefits and peace of mind, far outweigh the cost. Do it!
