Friends,

I was wondering if you guys have any experience with removing the oil pan and changing out the oil pump and the front main seal?

I'm having low oil pressure problems, and need to replace the oil pump, and I have a small leak from the front main. From the looks of the whole operation it is a complete and total PITA, worthy of some helpful advice.

I have a Haynes/Bentley manual that outlines the procedure, so I understand what it entails as far as removing all belts and such. I also plan to follow the advice of this guy. http://members.***.net/ambox/audi_sl...lPressureGauge

I would like to document the whole thing so as to make a DIY for it, because all searches for "Oil Pan" come up empty because the search utility omits the words "oil" and "pan" for being too common.

Oh, before I forget due to n00biness: 97 A4 1.8t FWD Auto.

I know I had to dremmel out a small piece from the subfram to get one stubborn bolt out, take the driver motor mount out and jack the engine up. took me like 4 hours with two other people to get it out.


And you have to take off the whole front end and intercooler support and a/c support. I had a friend get all the stuff at the dealer and it cost him like 10k. So I'm glad I did it myself, but I don't ever want to do it again.
