so if i told you i got this knowledge from the leading oil manufacturer in the world, you would say they know very little about engines too?

and why would you say an oil like royal purple is good oil, when it doesn't even meet any api standards for licensing and certification?

just cause you can build an engine doesn't mean you know about quality oils or oil change intervals or the fact that engines do consume oil, no matter what... 1 quart of oil per 2000 miles really isn't that bad, but there are cars that do consume that much....

and you made it sound like i said all cars, i made a blanket statement with that

As far as the oirignal poster, run half a can of seafoam in the crank case for a couple of miles and change your oil with some 15w40 and see if your still burning oil

I wouldn't go 20k miles with changing the oil if its really hard miles or if your using crap oil, but if your using royal purple, redline, or Amsoil and you drive like grandpa then your likely fine. Although I would get an oil analysis done after 6k miles to see what they say.

I may not have been around VWs or Audis for very long but I have been tinkering with cars long enough to know whats what.

If you wanted to be helpful you should have suggested maybe changing to a heavier oil...
both these statement make me question the fact that you should own a car.........cause you contradicted yourself in the second statement from the first

all i can say is........you are a tard and really know nothing about oils if you think you can go 20k miles on a single oil change and don't think that the w in oil stands for winter.......

yes 5w, 10w and anything w is a multi viscosity oil, because it is not allowed to thin as the engine heats up............but you are not educated enough to give people advice on oil changes or why their car is low on oil..........

damn i am done with this thread and you.......cause you are making me feel dumber just reading your dribble

Default is oil a problem in A6

Hi there,
Im just about to buy used audi. Probably will decide on 2004 A6 and the more I read about it the more posts about oil consumption I find. I wonder if there might be some general problem with oil in A6??? And could you recommend the best solution between the year and the price for A6? I think of buying the car from www.cbg.ie/SearchByMake.aspx?Make=43 because this is the nearest source for me. Could you compare the prices you think right for 2004 A6 with the offer? And are there any easy to hide faulds I should know about before buying? Thanks for any reply.

I would say this is an online forum and I can just as easily say that I know the guy who invented oil he and told me what ever bs I wanted to say here. I could care less who you know because likely your just making some bs up to prove a point. and yes, 1 qt of oil is pretty bad oil consumption unless its a diesel.

I have the same problem, so if some one could please get back to the question and not worry about the W in oil. Also was wondering if a hevery weight oil would slow the consuption down?.

Has anyone got a chance to play around with different viscosities of oil? Jus courious if any one viscositie burns less than others.

I have discoverd that my 1.8T does consume oil, the next question would be how mutch. I am going on a road trip and all flueds are full, wrote down starting mileage and will check when I get to my destination on the next gas stop.. I have been researching oil addatives to slow the presses of consumption. I hope to discover something that works so I can get through this winter and tear it down next summer.
