really any of the sythetics will work good, i run mobil1 high mileage, my buddy runs pennzoil platnum, and another buddy with a vr6 runs royal purple. 5w30 should be fine for year round and the 2.8 v6 takes 5.3 quarts.

I run royal purple in my 1.8t as well (8.99/qt around here). i go a little long between changes and would feel comfortable to about 6000 miles after seeing the way the oil looks when it comes out after. the filter is an important aspect of the change too. I'm a fan of Mobil 1 there (12.99ea). One last thing, replace the drain plug ring too (it's cheap leak insurance).

Castrol Synthetic every 3,500 miles. I'm running a boosted up 2001.5 1.8T and have had no problems.

I've been pleased with Valvoline SynPower so far (I chose it over Mobil 1 because I read that Mobil started blending or something which lowered the quality), but this next oil change (tomorrow, I think) I'm going to try running the Quaker State Horsepower synthetic and see what happens.
