Default oil?

5w 30 synthetic on my 01 1.8t?
just bought the car and i was just woundering what to use.

0-40 full synthetic as well. I have not seen to many people running 5-30.

0W-40 is what is popular with german cars... depending where you live you can run 5w-30... but you will want to do an oil change every five thousands miles.

All of us up here in upstate NY run 5W30 year-round. My personal feel, especially on an older engine with high miles, is that 0W is too thin. I don't like it personally, and have had no issues with 5W30 at any time during the year.

I've gone through 2 oil pick ups from sludge. Ever since then my paranoia makes me change my oil less than 3000k. But i use Mobil 1 5w30

I was pondering trying 5w-40 .. mobil one see how that goes, i just did 0w-40 cause that's what factory suggest

i live in maryland, i read online that i should use 0w - 30 in the summer but 5w -30 in the winter? wtf im thinkin of stickin to 5w-30 tho
