OEM vs Performance Tranny Mount

Default OEM vs Performance Tranny Mount

When shifting hard, my car makes an abrupt clunking noise. Needless to say, very unpleasant, and it hurts me to see my car in pain. I figured this problem was due to a faulty transmission mount, so while replacing my clutch I replaced the passenger's side (more commonly replaced) transmission mount with a performance one. Unfortunately it was fine, and the passenger's side mount was torn almost completely in half. I've heard that upgrading the passenger's side mount is worth the extra money. My question is, "What about the driver's side mount?" Does it take enough abuse to necesitate getting a performance mount, or should I just get a factory one? If so, what brand?

if you replace one you should replace the other. both of them do the same amount of work, i dont know where you read one is better to replace then the other but its not really true.

edit: heres some good upgrades, i have these in my car... (you need one of each, they are different on either side, if you already have the passenger side one, just buy the other)

Yep, I already have the 034 mount on the passenger's side. Just need to put my clutch and drivetrain back together before trying it. Have you noticed an improvement from stock with these mounts?

And investing in a Stern Rear Diff Power Ring and rear bushings is a good idea. $100 or so for the whole thing from www.DTHaus.com

Unfortunately for me, I think I am in the same boat as you I think I might have to invest in that power ring and rear bushings.

i already did my rear diff bushings but where does that power ring thing go? never heard of that before.

The Stern Differential Power Ring is very easy to install and it mounts between the top of the mount bushing and the metal mount itself. Essentially, it makes it a solid mount. You will need a new diff mount if the rubber is torn. http://shop.dthaus.com/product.sc?ca...0&productId=11
DTH carries it. I highly recommend this product cobined with Stern rear diff bushings.

BUT.... this did not solve my clunk. I have been driving on a beat clutch for over 5K miles and too long to admit on a bad wheel bearing. On top of that, my front end is still ugly from my deer attack, the interior is like a sandbox, and the outside is constantly covered in snow, ice, or mud. New England has been rough this winter and my poor A4 is in pain! I'm STILL working on the clunk, there is just an epic to-do list for my car, and my upcoming wedding to drive myself crazy over it.
