Default Odd Shifts With Automatic Transmission

Hey guys, my transmission is having a hard time shifting, seeming to stutter between downshifts. It's also giving the same stutter when leaving from a stop in first. Is my torque converter going out? The car hasn't thrown any codes so I'm kind of at a loss.

Honestly, I'm not really a transmission person, but have you tried changing the fluid? That's where I usually start when I'm not aware of any other problems. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

Does it also do this when you manually make it downshift by moving the shifter to 3 or 2 or whatever it has? (I have a manual, so I'm not sure for the AT.)

Check the fluid level and condition first..

checked the fluid and it had been overfilled. Let it drain and filled to the proper level and it shifts fine. Thank you for the advice.

Not to hijack the thread, but my trans is also shifting a bit weird.

When I take off, it goes through 1st without issue, and hits 2nd gear. About a half second after hitting 2nd, then the engine drops another 500RPMs but continues to accelerate. This is with normal driving.

If I drive more aggressively from a stop, it jets through 1st, hits and goes through 2nd, hits 3rd and about a half second after it shifts to 3rd, the engine then drops about 250RPM and the car continues to accelerate.

I've changed the transmission fluid within the last 3 months...new filter too.

I don't have a VAG-COM so I'm not sure what the temperature of the fluid was when I put the plug back in, but I had my wife run through all the gears with her foot on the brake...about 30 seconds in between each gear. We did that twice, and then put it in park for 15 minutes letting it run. The whole time, I was pumping fluid in, so that it was continually spilling back out into a pan. The car was level, setting on 4 jack stands.

by curiosity.....
at what rpm's does your automatic tranny shift in normal condition driving (e.g. no pedal to the metal, just cruising).

I need to video the tachometer and post it.
