obd ii codes help
hey..can anybody help me..
i just bought a 1998 audi a4 and it showed da check engine light. i took it to a mechanic and he put it the 0bd ii scanner. it showed codes p0455, p0441, p0303, p1136 and p1138. can anybody tell me what they mean and how to fix the problem..thank you.

Here's the lowdown:
p0455 (vag 16839) = EVAP Emission Contr.Sys.(Gross Leak) Leak Detected
Likely a leak in the evap pressure system - clear codes try re-tightening your gas cap and re-scan (maybe have to replace gas cap too) Might be worth a pressure test on the system (gas tank, fuel pump seal, etc)
p0441 (vag 16825) = EVAP Emission Contr.Sys.Incorrect Purge Flow
The evap system has several valves and solenoids that control purging of evap gases from the fuel system. Most likely one of these valves is not opening/or is stuck open. If something is stuck open it could actually lead to the above 16839 fault code.
p0303 (vag 16687) = Cyl.3 Misfire Detected
Check your spark plug on Cyl 3 (search forums for cylinder order since it is not obvious) for correct gap. Also could be dying coil pack/cracked wire, oil in the plug seat, PCV hose or valve cracked, vacuum leak, dying MAF... misfires can be a result of a host of issues.
p1136 (vag 17544) = Long Term Fuel Trim Add.Fuel,Bank1 System too Lean
p1138 (vag 17546) = Long Term Fuel Trim Add.Fuel,Bank2 System too Lean
These two are basically spam codes. They are a symptom of another problem, or responding to bad O2 sensor.
Since both your O2 sensors are reporting a lean condition, my guess is that your MAF might need cleaning/replacement. The MAF can cause a misfire condition if it is not delivering enough (or too much) fuel in the fuel:air ratio. So I'd say you have 2 real issues out of all those codes. An EVAP leak somewhere, and a problem causing a lean condition responsible for the misfire and fuel trim errors. One other possibility is a plugged fuel filter which could lean to a lean condition.

Any luck anyone on solving these codes. I have the p0455, p1136, p1138.
So this is what I have come up with on the to do list for this:
1) Check EVAP purge valve (by air filter)
2) Check purge canister (between rear wheels, under the car, at the round cover
3) Check for vacuum leaks
4) Check MAF sensor
5) Check fuel filter
6) Last resort, check Leak Detection Pump, but according to a bunch of individuals, replacing this did no good...unless if someone can say it did fix the problem for them, it is going to be the last resort thing
Anyone with any ideas and who has fixed this issue, would be greatly appreciated. No one reported back in the other forums on how they resolved their problem, and if they even did resolve the problem. Thanks !!!
