Did you check the fuse for the fuel pump, or swap relays? Are there any codes stored?

Can you confirm you have voltage to the fuel pump connection and an earth to the other side?

Do you have access to VAG-COM and if so, what codes are stored?

Check your engine coolant temperature sender. If you have to pump the gas or hold it open to get the car started that's a CTS failure. ECM thinks the engine is hot and holds the injectors open longer while cranking, basically resulting in a flooded engine.
