Newbie with questions.
Hi ,
I am new to Audi, just purchased a daily driver 1998 A4 1.8T Quatro. Automatic.
1. Idle speed is around 850 rpm, is it too high? if so, how do i adjust.
2. I can't seem to find DIY for oil change, please point to right direction.
3. Car has 160k miles, what pm are necessary. Notice INSP light flashing.
Thanks.

1. 750 is normal. if it were me i wouldnt worry bout it unless it was at or above 1000
2. unscrew oil fill cap. take out drain plug (its on the side of the oil pan). drain oil into container. once fully drained remove filter while trying to avoid hot oil dripping down your arm. replace with new filter using some used oil to lube the filter gasket. replace drain plug. fill with 4.3 quarts of your choice of oil, usually use 0w-40 mobil 1 and a 301 mobil filter or ph3569 fram filter. replace oil filler cap. drink beer
3. if it breaks, fix it. other than that sounds like you should be on your second timing belt change fairly soon

well if you had questions on how to change your oil, i wouldnt suggest getting into your timing belt change on your own.. my mechanic is a VW/Audi specialist and he said a timing belt job on a 1.8t for him to do with parts and labor would be between 5-6 hundred.. alot less than what a stealership is gunna run you for sure, but the only way i would DIY if i were you is if i had someone there with you who knows about these cars and has worked on them before..

yea if you cant figure out an oil change without a DIY, you should not be messing with your timing belt. if you screw that job up it can cost you several thousand $$ to fix. however you will save a few hundred $$ by doing it yourself. the timing belt kit costs around $300 for parts, and a mechanic is going to charge you $500-$900 for installation labor.
