U should be able to get a better quote than that. The cost of the part is hideous (in the $700 range) but if I remember Auditech79's post correctly, the labor is very quick. You're getting murdered on labor with that quote.

Ooooof, the AWM tensioner is indeed a ripoff. $686.72 on ECSTuning. My ATW one was only $184.70.

Dragon, what is ATW? Is that the part? Is that part range $184.70 to $686.72? Thanks

ATE and AWM are Audi designations of his engine and yours.

Devil, can you tell me the part description? Is it chain tensioner?

Yep it's called the cam chain tensioner. Check www.germanautoparts.com, www.rockauto.com as well - you may have luck with them.

Thanks Devil. BTW, I mentioned this earlier but maybe you know. A couple of buddies of mine said I might be able to get away with putting super heavy oil in the engine to temporarily muffle the sound. The oil would be be far out of spec range -- 30W-30 or 40w-30.

Have you heard of anything like that? Jeff
