Default New intercooler, Water/Meth injection......

So since I moved out here to Phoenix and started school I've decided to start throwin a little more money into my car. I found a pretty cool intercooler and wondered if anyone has seen it before and if its worth getting. Its a Forge side mount thats pretty large. I dont want to cut my bumper for a FMIC so i think this might be best.

Aside from the intercooler, I ordered samco silicone hoses, a water/methanol injection kit I'm having professionally installed with my custom 2.75'' exhaust, and I may order a larger turbo I haven't decided yet. Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions for mods. I'm mainly looking for cool boost temps since its 100+ degrees out here all the time.

My mods on the car already are:
-Excedy Stage 3 clutch and 12 lb flywheel
-APR stage 1 software
-H&R race springs on bilstein shocks
-Audi A8 12.3’’ front rotors/TT carriers/Hawk HP Plus pads
-3’’ test pipe
-Magnaflow muffler, deleted resonator
-AEM intake with custom heat shield
-bailey motor sport diverter valve
-Greddy turbo timer with companion lite
-RS4 headlights with 6000K Xenons
-yellow fog lights
-RS4 grille
-20 gig phatbox hard drive
-10’’ Rockford fosgate subwoofer
-Rockford fosgate amp (p525)
-VDO boost gauge with red led
-18x8.5 HP Design wheels powder coated gun metal with machined lip wrapped in 225/40/18R Yokohama tires
-APR Snub mount
-shaved door moldings, lower trim painted same color as the car
-rolled fenders

yup Forge makes really good products. never even seen their side mount tho, but it should definitely do the job for a k03.

as for mod suggestions your pretty much set for the stock turbo. if your going BT, read thru this- https://www.audiforums.com/forum/b5-models-69/1-8t-turbo-upgrade-information-93439/ a gtrs or gt71r would be probly what you want, unless you want to change out a lot

How does this fit in the car? Unless it's not an actual pic of the inter cooler...?

And I wonder if it's any good for something larger than a K03. If you're going to go gtrs, you might want to just spend the money once on a fmic if the forge doesn't work for a bt setup. BoostFactory makes a nice big smic, but there's a lot of debate about it, especially since it costs as much as the Racetec fmic.

yea i have no idea where that would mount up to. its stupid they dont give you any information about it toher then their sales pitch. no tech specs, sizes, no 'this kit includes...'. when a site doesnt include that info i usualy dont buy from them.

I would call them up and ask them about the inlet and outlet. If they aren't side inlet and outlet it will be a PITA to get that in there.

Aftermarket SMIC's are a huge waste of time since they are only going to lower the IAT's a little more then the stock SMIC and no where near as much as a FMIC. This is not going to help you at all where you live.

For $799 + shipping you can buy a full Racetec FMIC kit that includes everything and that will fit behind the stock bumper with nearly no cutting of the bumper.

Mike, up to what size turbo will the Racetec FMIC effectively support? Will it work with the DTH elim kit?

P.S. sorry to threadjack

it will definitely work with the elim kits. gt30xx kits and bigger and you'd probly want to look into the ER comp fmic

Thanks. I like the sleeper look without the S4 bumper.

I have a customer that is running a Racetec/GTRS elim setup on his 2001 with Revo tuning, seems to be working well. The ER Comp would be the better choice if you really plan on pushing the boost at 23-25psi on a race gas tune, problem is that the ER comp does not fit behind the stock B5 A4 bumper unless you really want to hack it up, comp is 3" thick. Nice part about the ER comp is that it is designed to mount right up to the elim kits without having to mod the hot side pipe, some modifications to the Racetec hot side pipe is needed to mount it up to the turbo outlet of the elim.
