Default the new guy...

ok ill try to make this short, im looking at getting a 98 2.8 quattro a4, it has almost 150k on it, ive never owned one before but i hear audis are well built cars but are expensive when something goes wrong is this true? and is there anything i should look into rebuilding or fixing right after i get it due to the 150k miles? i want to make this car last me a few years, so will this car last with the high miles? any and all advice is appreciated, thanks...

(a buddy of mine has an 97 1.8t and has had no problems with it at 166k and loves it, thats where i hear most of my audi info)

Welcome. Mine has just shy of 180k on it. It wasn't maintained at all before I got it. I've done the required stuff to it, fix the leaks, tb,h2o pump, etc. Have no fear they're solid fun cars.

You are correct. Audis are expensive to fix if you take them to the dealership. If you are mechanically inclined, you can buy a service manual and work on it yourself and then it is not as expensive. There is a thread on this site that has a list of things that are likely to go wrong on your car but I can't remember it. My car needed a new timing belt, new upper tie rods, new CV joints (I just replaced the entire axles), new brakes, and rear rotors.
