That could be the problem... if thats the case DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR AT ALL!!!! You could bend valves and that would get SUPER expensive really quick.

Where do you live just out of curiosity?

My guess would be the cam chain tensioner. Too hard to diagnose these sounds over the internet though.

+1 to what onepoint said about it being to hard to figure it out over the internet.

I can't imagine that belt not being changed. If it hasn't then you are one lucky person and I have never seen anyone make it that far. lol

You won't really. I guess you could see if you have the upgraded one but there is no way to tell if it's been replaced or not.

So i looked at my timing belt yesterday morning and sure enough it needs to be changed. I ordered a complete timing belt kit, with new belts, water pump, tensioner and pully, etc... Should be here for this weekend ill throw it in and update with whats going on. it doesnt look like its been changed, looks pretty ragged, but if the previous owner had it done at around 80000 miles then i dont know what it SHOULD look like now with over 45000 miles on it. Hopefully its the timing belt tensioner thats making that noise and not the cam chain tensioner, that looks a little harder to replace...

Yeah... I went to school for it last year. I've been working on cars since before i could walk. My dad used to have his shop right in the garage underneath the house.
