Default New Control Arm DIY?

So I just spoke to my mechanic and and found that that creeking noise is that I need a new 4 new control arms on my 2.8. A sad day because I just got my new rs4 rims put on. Any ways I am finding kits online for around $650 and I was wondering how difficult doing this myself would be. Because my mechanic quoted me $1550 for parts and labor with tierod assemblys as well. any advice is appreciated.

Try this: http://www.audiworld.com/tech/wheel43.shtml

If you have mechanical-aptitude, and you've worked on cars before, you can do it. It's time-consuming, and dealing with the pinch bolt (from what i hear) is a real b*tch. Try the regional forums to see if there is anyone in yourarea that can give you a hand. Toss them a couple bucks (maybe 2-300) for their assistance. Hell of a lot cheaper than paying 1550.

Also, $650 for a set of new control arms is waaaaay too much. Try this: http://www.performance-cafe.com/prod...oducts_id=1683

^Those control arms are better than OEM and will last a lot longer too. I believe they are made by Febi(sp), and they are very reputable. That kit also comes withthe upgraded tie-rod ends too.

Strange. I skim-read this ^ write up quickly and didn't see the mention of an alignment... Maybe I missed it, but that's extremely important.

How do I know if I need the 10 piece kit or 12 piece kit? I have a 99.5 b5 a4 quattro 2.8l.

The 12 piece included sway bar links. Personally, I recommend you get them. You will be in there undoing them anyway. You may as well replace them. I was glad I did since mine were siezed up and I had to cut the bolt to get the old ones off. If your car has ever been through salty winter weather, def a good idea to get them.
