new cluth problem
i had my spec stage 1 clutch kit put in by a local audi shop and they said that my flywheel was good enough to put back in and that i might get a little chattering. i didnt think much of it only that i would get a little noise here and there. but in first gear when i start going from a complete stop the whole car shakes when the clutch starts to catch like im not giving it enough gas or something. it shakes more when i give it about 1500rpms and less when i give it 2500 to 3000 but both are still really noticeable. if im rolling a little it doesnt do it as much also. i didnt think this is what he meant by chatter and i didnt have this problem with the old clutch. is this just part of the break in period, am i going to need a new flywheel, or should i take it back to the shop to see whats up?

it sounds like its either the break in period, or your flywheel was a little more warped then they expected. you could take it back there and ask them if its normal, just to make them aware you think there is a problem. and if its still doing it after a few weeks of normal driving, have them figure out whats wrong. any brand new clutch on a used flywheel will do this to some extent, but if it doesnt get any better you may need a new flywheel.

Well they lied to you, because our Dual Mass flywheels can be resurfaced and people have been getting them done for over 8 years. I got my stock flywheel resurfaced 3 times with the very first time being back in early 2001. Southbend even offers resurfacing. The problem is that special tools are needed to do the job, which is why not all shops are willing or able to resurface our stock dual mass flywheels.
If your flywheel had "burn" marks, that means it had high spots and basically that means it was warped. So at this point your clutch disk is only touching a % of the actual flywheel surface and this is what is causing it to skip at low rpms. At high rpms it might even be slipping a bit before it fully grabs. This could cause your clutch to wear out much quicker then it should.

Well it only does it in first gear because the car isn't moving at that point. Once the car is moving the disk is spinning too. Well in some short time period you might find yourself needing a new clutch along with that flywheel.
