Default Need new brakes - What are my options

Hi,

So I took my A4 in for some minor stuff and they said my brake pads were done, and recommended when I change them I should also change the rotors (they didn't say machine them, so I figure they are done).

I figure I may as well pay a little more and get something better, what R my options? (note, I don't want to spend 2.5K for a big brake kit, just a couple hundred for rotors and pads/calipers)

I think my options are stock A4 stuff, A6 rotors and pads, A8 rotors and pads, S4 rotors and pads. Don't know which of these I would need new calipers with? So I'm asking what R my options(cause I don't jack about brakes. Don't know if S4 brakes are better then A8 ones)... Oh, and price ranges please.

Thanks

Hands down, the A8 kit. I bought from ECS Tuning, and spec'd the drilled/slotted rotors with the kit, and also ordered Hawk pads. $444 for the whole thing, plus shipping. Check with PureMS as well - it seemed like if you got the blank rotors, PureMS was cheaper, but if you wanted slotted or drilled/slotted, ECS was the better price. I don't know for sure but check it out and you'll be able to compare prices. Another upside to the A8 kit is that it uses your stock calipers, so you don't have to shell out for those.

The A8 kit is awesome. If you went S4, I think you need to buy calipers with it (I know you do on the rear, and I think so for the front too). Unless you have a track-driven car, you don't need anything more than the A8 kit - a BBK like StopTech is complete overkill. I know you said "a couple hundred" but I really strongly advise that you look at this setup, even though it's somewhat more. The feel and power of these are a world better than OEM A4 brakes, and honestly, the car should've come with them to start.

Here's a couple pics:

Seriously, step up to them - I know it's more than you may have planned to spend, but for what you pay, you get a hell of a lot, and I seriously doubt you'll regret it.

If I don't need new calipers for the A8 kit, this sounds pretty good I was expecting to pay like 350$ for the A4 stuff anyways, for another 100$ it's totally worth it.

Are there any DIY's for this(I think I've seen one somewhere), as I was planning on doing this myself (and painting my rotors as part of the process).

Thanks

Sorry another question.

Should I change all 4 rotors? I notice someone on the board only doing the fronts, as in should I just do front rotors and get new pads all around?

As for the rears, inspect them. If you have good life left on the pads and the rotors aren't grooved badly or beaten up, leave 'em alone. And yes, the A8 kit uses the A4 rotors. You'll be set.
