Default Need advice on new turbo

Hi, a couple of days ago my stock turbo blew on my 2001 audi 1.8tqm with 105,000 miles. The shop I always take it to to get it fixed wants to charge me $700 for a gently used turbo and another $250 on labor. $700 seemed kinda high-priced, I just wanted to get a couple opinions to see if it is a reasonable price or not. Thanks for your help

1. What the ***** is a "gently used turbo"???
2. What's the warranty?
3. Do you have extra cash for an upgrade? If so, you can go Elim from DTH.

i called the guy just to talk about his car and what not ( i already have my own but that turbo intrigued me ) anyway he told he he would sell his turbo and what not seperately and if he got 300 for the turbo he would be very satisfied (aka he will go lower? i assume! ) i dont know anythign about this kind of stuff though, will this turbo even work on our cars? if so is that a good deal he said it was a turbonetics i think.

just go to the classifieds, used stock turbos are $150-250 depending on miles. $700 will get you a brand NEW stock turbo. Pass on that craigslist turbo

Just be careful when buying from the classifieds. Bought one for $150.00 on here and it whines really bad. I talked to a few guys on here and They pretty sure that the turbo is on its way out. If you can aford the $700.00 for a new turbo, that would be the way to go. I wasn't able to afford a new one, so I got what I paid for I guess. Good luck!!

I'm pretty sure a machine shop is not needed to rebuild these turds as long as the housing isn't damaged:

a T3/T4 is going to be costly. You'll need a tune, injectors, fmic, blah, blah, blah.

I'd go gpopshop too. seems to be a good success rate.
