Need advice on clutch/flywheel.
How's it going. I just recently purchased a 2001 audi a4 quattro and it has 91,000 on the original clutch so it's time to change the clutch, at the same time I want to throw in a lightweight flywheel instead of resurfacing the stock one. What do you suggest? I would perfer a cheaper clutch/flywheel kit if they have any good ones. I'm tight on money right now and would also like to service the car with the timing belt/plugs/coil pack etc... So please any input on a reliable cheap setup would be highly appreicated. I would be installing the clutch/flywheel myself so labor cost would not be a problem.

What are your plans as far as upgrades besides the clutch?
Sounds like the ECS RA4 upgrade might be right up your alley. It uses a 240mm S4 clutch disk and pressure plate with a specially adapted S4 flywheel. Plenty of holding power for a stock turbo/engine setup and there's a member here called redline who's even running this with an upgraded turbo.
Audi B5 A4 Quattro 1.8T > Drivetrain > Clutch > Performance > ES#5485 RA4 Conversion Clutch Kit - Stage 1 - RA4S1-STEEL

Yep just ordered my RA4 Stage 1 kit a few days ago, looking forward in receiving it. I have an exhaust, aftermarket DV, BSR chip will be installed once the clutch is and I plan on a turbo upgrade later on. From what I heard about the clutch it should give noticeable acceleration gain in first gear as the flywheel is very light and spins up quick also resulting in faster revs. Go for it

b5 Clutch swap
The ECS kit is a great option, but South Bend Clutch makes awesome products. May be a little more money, but a much better product. I do a lot of clutch work and you get what you pay for with those kits.
And the only true gains from a LW Flywheel is at the higher RPM range. With a LW Flywheel you actually lose rotational inertia, meaning more torque will be needed to move the vehicle off the line. I like to keep the DMF and step-up the clutch kits on my customers Stage I to II vehicles that are used for daily driving. And go with LWF with a customer that actually run there vehicles in the high RPM range, like on the track (SCCA, Audi Club, ect.).
But either way you choose, replace the Flywheel with a new unit, because I have seen the DMF fail after a clutch job, multiple time and now refuse to replace a clutch kit without a new flywheel.

Car is i'd say noticeably quicker in 1st gear, revs a lot faster and overall a great buy however. The only downfall if you want to call it that is you have to keep the flywheel happy meaning it has to be in the correct gear at a reasonable speed. eg: going 40km/h in 3rd is no good, flywheel does not like it as it is light and has no momentom in a high gear at such a slow speed. But dont worry you will figure it out in an hour, buy the kit GL
