Default Myth or Fact?

It has been stated somewhere around that our engines have more Gas Mileage at 3000rpm then running around 2,400rpm due to the turbo..?
Is this true or have I been fooled??

it's probably true depending on the engine load. the load inevitably causes boost, so more fuel is consumed at higher loads.

if it's highway on a flat road, i think 2400 in 5th would get the best gas mileage. there's so many other factors though.

Easy way to find out is to hook up your vag com and monitor the load on the engine at both RPM's, if the load is higher at 3,000 then its less efficient.

My stock 97 1.8T automatic can get about 30.6 mpg at ~2,400 RPM going about 55mph. I drive ~120 highway miles/day, and I fill up around twice a week and measure the gas mileage according to the odometer.

I would be truly impressed if you reported higher than 31 mpg running at higher RPMs, but you let me know - I could use all the gas saving tips I can get!

I drive highway everyday at 3300-3500rpm and I get roughly 18mpg.

wtf you must do a lot of acel and decel. there's no way in hell you could cruise and get that bad of gas mileage. check your car lol. even my giant useless V6 gets 28mpg cruising and 25mpg in Jersey acel and decel
