Exclamation Is my turbo getting ready to blow???

ok so it seems like when i turn my car off it smells like something is burning, and i always wait for a few minutes before i turn the car off to let the turbo cool down, sometimes i see smoke coming from somewhere between where the turbo is and the cat, i was thinking the cat may have gotten burned out but someone said the turbo may be going bad!!! any ideas on what could be going on??? it drives just fine also its not down on power or anything, its a 99 1.8t manual trans, totally stock btw

My bet is on the valve cover gasket.

Any other symptoms? Dentist drill? low boost? maybe take off the T.I.P. and wiggle the compressor shaft, see what it looks like in there.

thanks guys for your input, there is no leaking its def. not a radiator issue, im going to look into that gasket tho like you said, the only other thing wrong is that the ac stopped working but im thinking that the clutch went out on that but it seems to spool up at the usual rpm and no loss of power or weird noises just smells like burning and smoke occasionally
