i have not taken the timing belt off yet. But from working on subarus you were suppose to use a specail tool and i never saw the reason to at all i just held the cam with a breaker bar and put the belt on worked everytime. i see this motor being the same.

the headbolt sequence is

5 3 2 8
7 1 4 6

correct me if i am wrong.
tightening should go as follows hand tight on all bolts then in that sequence do 25ft lbs 40 ft lbs 80 ft lbs waiting 10min in between.

nice work! yea get a t-stat. best $27 dollar insurance you can get! also for those heads take a true flat spot, straight edge, and some feeler gauges, the max allowable is .002" i think.? if your feeler gauge goes thru,, most likely warpage.

as for my car ima start tomarrow on assembly, ohh and ps. those cams are pressed on, they have no keyway.. so if they come off... then were in the same boat. do you have the tool?

Definitely don't reuse them. But I'm pretty sure you only need 16, not 20. I found them at partsgeek.com for like 70 i think
