I don't know exactly how it's done that way, but I was talking with Manufan about it and he changed his without dropping the tank as well. He said he just sat back and looked at it and figured that with as good a design as Audi seems to have come up with on this car, it didn't make sense that the tank would have to come down to change it. Sure enough, he screwed around with it and managed to get the filter changed without dropping the tank. PM him - he can explain it out better than I can. You can bet your *** I'll be talking with him before I change mine though

Hmmm... Maybe it's just a matter of the right tool extentions. Thanks.

ok i went by a friends that has a built 1.8T GTI. i pop'd the hood and he looked under and said... coolant temp sensor... we unplugged it, and my car was idleing perfect. i was actually able to stop hard and my rpms would not drop below 1000. so im going to replace that and see if that fixed it. if not then i can try some other crap... its really dark out so we really didnt want to get deep into working on it.

Never heard of an ECTS causing those symptoms. Usually you just get a hard start when that goes bad. Sounds like you figured it out though. Coolness.

I think the revised part is green. Just go to a vw or audi dealer to get it, they are cheap and you don't have to worry about getting the wrong part. Don't forget to get a new O ring and C clip. FIY the old O ring likes to stick in the flange and the clip likes to jump out of your hands into the depths of the engine bay.
