I'd love to do more work myself, but my apartment complex won't even let me change my oil, let alone to a TB swap. I had to take mine to a garage yesterday to replace one of the upper control arms on the driver's side rear. I think he thought i was crazy because i told him exactly what was wrong with it and which part to order before i even dropped the car off. lol.

Well most shops are hesitant when someone comes in and tells them what to fix. Sometimes you get that back yard mechanic that comes in and says it wont start in the morning just change my alternator and instead he needed something like a battery or even larger problem.

^Good point, never thought of it like that. Its just frustrating to have to pay someone to do stuff I can do myself, just because i don't have any place to do it, know what i mean?

Yeah but i don't do THAT much work that $50/month would end up being cost effective vs. a couple hundred bucks in labor every few months

great to have you on the forums

reminds me of a funny story i heard from my local VAG tuning shop. he said that some guy came in and desperately needed tires, but bought a chip instead. hopefully you prioritize better than he did, but it sounds like that's your plan!

LOL, you have to love that, even if it's a stupid decision CCA4, time to make friends with a car guy who has a garage! When I bought my house, of course it had a garage. That was one of my primary criteria - I found some nice places without garages, and refused to even waste the gas to drive by them.

yea about 5 of my friends and I are looking to get a house, we all work in the same 15 mile radius. i told them my only criteria is that i get my own room (i have 8 pet tarantulas, no one wants to sleep with me) and i need 2 full garage bays to myself. that will obviously mean il be the house mechanic but so be it, it will save everyone money and they can pay me by picking up some of my share of the rent.... or beer. its a win-win.

Yeah i just moved to this area, but when i get a little more cash stashed away i'm gonna look for someplace with a garage, or at least someplace that'll let me work on my car in the parking lot lol
