After replacing all of the vacuum lines over the weekend all went well. Today I went to clear the 2 old codes. Ended with 5 new codes that i could not clear, the small obd2 tester was borrowed. Could I reset the ecm by removing the battery cables for a time. Old codes were PO1134/ PO 1136, new ones were PO300,301,303,304,and po441. This is a 2001 A4 2.8 30v. Could the new codes be from all the vacuum system back in order or the ecm picking up the new codes and not adjusting yet.

Disco-ing the battery won't clear the codes in our cars. OBD 2 doesn't work on our cars either. You need VAG COM. You can get a cheap one off of ebay or you can buy VCDS and a cable from Ross Tech (you can also get an ebay cable and download VCDS Lite).
Type the codes into google one by one, with the words "ross tech" after them and it'll take you to the ross tech wiki, which will tell you everything you need to know.
Example: p0300 ross tech =
16684/P0300/000768 - Ross-Tech Wiki

Thanks for the reply, already pulled the codes and cleared them. Check engine light came on again on the way to work this am. A Ross vagcom is not in the cards right now. I have to spend some $ on the a4 to get it ready for winter. Looked at ebay, so many could you recommend one that would work and not cost over 100 bucks. Thanks again.

I got a orange one that has the cable built into it (like OBD II) for $9 on ebay. I keep it in my glove box. It works great for pulling and erasing codes from the engine, SRS, ABS, etc. Definitely worth the money.
