That valve cover is only on 97's, but doesn't the N249 valve on 00+ only apply vacuum in an overboost situation, Mike? I don't see how the n249 could cause a loss of boost under normal conditions.

While we're on the topic of hooking up the DV has anyone heard of this or tried this? What the hell is the purpose of it?

Which is why I asked if it was his car or not.

Yes that is what the N249 valve will do and it is ECU controlled.

Plenty A4 1.8t owners have done the "bypass the N249 valve" mode. It is done to keep the ECU from controlling the BPV to reduce power as a safety measure.

As for which way the BPV is installed, the picture of the valve on the left side of that link is the correct way to install a diaphram type valve like the OEM Bosch valve. The valve on the right is the correct way to install a piston type valve. If you install a diphram valve like the right picture and are pushing anything more then stock boost it will cause the rubber diaphram to rip since it forces the center of the valve up while the pressure from the vac line is pushing the outer part of the rubber diaphram downward.

Ah I missed your first question. I would never try to school YOU

I just remembered that I bypassed my n249 valve years ago after reading this old thread.

It's a 1997 AEB and the picture is my car.

I installed my OEM DV with the 'left' configuration.

Anyways i'l try to get my hand on an aftermarket DV and a new N75 valve and see how it goes then.

Because right now (vacuum disconnected) everything runs fine and more boost than ever..
