running 10w-30 should be OK if you have a high milage vehicle. How do I know? Well....I can only assume this because when you buy oil (lets say Mobil 1 5w-30), it will say on the label "For newer vehicle formula". When you buy 10w-30 it will read "For high milage".

Then again, the viscosity also depends on the weather condition your in.

I've seen some Castrol commercials, and havent really seen any negative feedbacks on this particular brand so I'm going to give it a try. Frankly, I dont think all this really matters anyway.

The next good thing you can have for your engine is a magnetic drain plug. I have a strong magnet (its like a reaching magnet stick) that i stick in the oil pan after I drain to grab any small fragments from the invetibable wear and tear.

I do mine every 3k, no exceptions. Although with the higher quality synthetics nowadays, you can get away with doin it every 5k. 10 is a stretch IMO

Yea pushing to 10k is a gamble these older motor gain sludge very easily...
see the time frame of these cars and motors were when audi and vw were playing/redesigning their engines so that they could actually go 10k miles till the next oil change. and so they thought they had it figured out and released them with warrenty coverage at oil changes at every 10k miles
then motors started having issues with sludge and it was a big deal and after many cases of the same thing they had to admit they were wrong and it turned into a "service action" or recall, so they had to re-release warrenty coverage at every 5k oil change and send letters to every owner of an audi/vw that fell in that catogory.

so i would suggest that you do an oil change every 5k, for the saftey of your car.

I do oil changes between 3 and 5k. I'm at 3,266 right now, time to go to Autozone.

Most motors with a good synthetic will go 10k. My G8 has 8.8 quarts of oil and a good synthetic can go 15k on that. But for engines that are known for sludge, I wouldn't go over 5k.

In the manual, it says every 12,000km to change oil.
