Mobil vs Castrol

im baffled. Ive been running Mobile one 10w30 fully synthetic with a mobil one oil filter every 3000 miles. i am currently in florida. Is this bad? also i am moving back to michigan next month. Should i try and run the castrol 5w40 fully synthetic? that seems as if its the preferred oil? btw i have a 2.8 12v

coil weather= buy thin oil
hot weather= buy thick oil
if your both which i am 5w-30 perfect
now for what oil to buy you can get mobile one or castrol these oil are suprup compared to what they use to be 30 years ago **** i bett even cheap oil is good oil from walmart as long as its synthetic oil dont let anyone tell you its crap its bs synthetic is the best period.
cheap synthetic is better than any conventional oil anyday

vr6 and 1.8 t's are the ones that NEED 0w-40 /5w-40/10w-40
a regular v6 can handle 5w-30 it is up to you and if it makes you feel better if you change to 5w-40.
now i would suggest 0w-40 when you go back to michigan.

Alright awesome guys. thank you alot. thats exactly what i was looking for. Also last question.... when you read the viscosity of the oil. i think it was said earlier on. Now the first number is the weight of it cold? until it gets up to operating temp... then its all the same. Whats the last number for? say the 40 in the 0w40? thanks guys

The first number in the designation (10W) is the apparent viscosity of the oil when it is cold; the W stands for `winter'. The second number (40) is the viscosity of the oil when hot. There is a trick here; the oil doesn't actually get thicker (turn from 10 weight to 40 weight) as it gets hotter. What is actually happening is that when the oil is cold, it has the viscosity of a cold 10 weight oil. as it gets hotter, it doesn't get thin as fast as a 10W oil would; by the time it is up to temperature, it has the viscosity of a hot 40 weight oil.

man oil discussions confuse me. been running regular valvoline 5w-30 in my 2.8 30v year round in minnesota. Just realized I have a valve cover gasket leak. Im going to be replacing the gasket and changing the oil this week. Let me know if ive gone all wrong and need to switch brands /weight.
Also the car has 120k on it now and wondering if switching to synthetic is a good idea. I want to get the most miles out of the engine in the future.

how long have you been using conventional? how often do you change the oil?
