Exclamation Maybe you all can help me decide

I have a 96 B5 12V Quattro with a broken spring in back and I;m sure the original shocks. I'm looking at coilovers since replacing all that with stock will cost about as much as a set of decent coilovers. I want to drop it a smidge because it has the famous non-sport B5 front lift.

It's a daily driver so I don't want to sacrifice comfort but want it tightened up a bit and squat some for that stance and possibly have it handle like a slot car. I'm not about to slam it, but I live in the north and want to be able to adjust my height for winter when needed.
I was thinking about these from ECS:

What do you think. I don't wanna bounce all over but some tight cornering and a better stance would be great. Saving up for some 18.8's for next summer.

All opinions welcomed...Thank you

I've never heard anything bad about H&R coilovers besides the price, so if you can justify that I'd say go for it. (And it sounds like you just did )

I will weigh in with my insight.....

I too considered getting coil-overs and decided long ago that I wouldn't. I too rationalized that I would raise and lower my car as needed with the seasons. I can't be bothered.....most others can't either. Most cars with coil-overs typically stay at one setting, and many, many of them stay slammed.

I live in Northern New Jersey so we see our share of snow. I see that you are from Michigan so I will not get into a pissing match about who gets more snow, but you will know how low you would be able to go.

Since you only want to drop it a "smidge" why would you go with coil-overs unless you would ultimately want to lower it more? And if you don't want "to slam it" again I would have to question why coil-overs?

A static drop with sport or race springs might be a cost effective and good option to go with. I personally sit on Bilstein Sport Struts and H&R Sport Springs. My car sits noticeably lower and handles pretty well. Better than stock, without much sacrifice to ride height. Others use race springs and still others opt for S4 spring/strut combos as alternatives.

There are countless threads on this and other forums that can assist you in making a decision.

Should look or at least sound familiar Jeremy.......it's basically the same advice you gave me all those years ago. I couldn't be happier.......

If I do go low.....I will go the same route Alex went......AIR!!

Thanks guys... food for thought. DO you think I will be able to stuff the 18's with a static drop?

My sig pic is my car on a static 2.5" drop over 19x8 wheels with 235-35-19s. You'll be fine.
