Default Manual transmission difference

Ok so just had my 96 a4 2.8l 12v 5 speed Quattro towed into the shop. Throw out bearing is shot. My question is my bad trans is transmission code CXW I have a spare transmission from my 97 Audi a4 2.8l 12v 5 speed manual with 100k less miles on it but the code is DJP can I swap a DJP into my 96 that had a CXW. If so what else do I need just the trans or do I need the Ecu or anything

I was wondering on this as well. I have the 1.8 and would like to swap to the v6 or an s4 6. What all is needed to convert to those as well?

V6 tranny is direct replacement, although taller gears. S4 6 requires quite a but of s4 parts

the 6 speed isnt much better for our engines from the reasearch i've done. and i know what your talking about. i'd love to get more out of 1st especially, but the rest of the gears arent much better. from what i've gathered, i would say running a 5speed from an older 5 cyl may be your best bet. another option is the new 01a 6 speed, which is a direct bolt on minus the shift linkage, but since they are out of the newer cars they cost a lot more. you can run any 01a as a bolt up, which includes all 5speed non-01e's from previous years plus b6 1.8t's 5 and 6 speeds. the b6 3.0 6 speed is an 01e tranny which is not bolt up

you know the throw out bearing being bad does not mean bad trans, that bearing is what the slave cylinder fork is attached to that presses against the clutch pressure plate to release the clutch.

Ya but got this trans for 100 bucks with 100k less miles on it so I'd rather throw that in
