MAF issues?
Hello guys I'm new to the forum and a new Audi A4 B5 owner. I just need to be pointed in the right direction so I can get my car running good. First off its 97 quattro 1.8t. Its all stock except for a k04 turbo and a cone air filter. The MAF is unplugged and it runs like crap with it plugged in. I just need to know what supporting mods and such do I need to get to make this k04 work properly. I installed a boost guage after I recieved it with its current "upgrades" and it consistantly runs at 9-10 psi but lacks power in higher rpms. Any information or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome aboard, Griff. The best thing to do is read the FAQ thread that's stickied on this forum. It contains a newbie guide which has all kinds of relevant info for new B5 owners.
I don't have any knowledge on the 1.8T, unfortunately. I have the 2.8L on my B5.
The search function on this forum works well, too, so give that a try as well. Lots of information on this forum, finding it is fairly easy.

You can try using parts store MAF cleaner, but its very likely your MAF is toast. Common problem with K&N cone filters because they're usually over-oiled. My suggestion would be to switch to an AEM dry element filter.
As for the K04, you should be ok with just the turbo. What do you mean by "higher" RPM's? K03/K04 turbos pretty much run out of breath above 4500rpm, this is evident by looking at a dyno sheet. This is directly from the FAQ sticky at the top of this forum:
The K03 is the yellow plot.

I looked for a reman from Audi but new is the only way it is sold. It is p/n 058-133-471-A for 360.00 priced on our website. It's only 3 days away to order in from Audi though. Any questions on this please ask us. Thanks, Jeff.

If the car runs better with the maf unplugged you more than likely need a new one. Try cleaning it first but your probably going to need a new one. On a side note, you used to be into dsm's? Besides my audi I also have a 600+ hp GST. I don't know if I'll ever get out of the dsm scene.
