Lower Rubber Trim

Lower Rubber Trim
I'm thinking about painting my lowers this summer, but am a little worried about the rubber strip at the bottom of the doors. Are there any holes behind them? Will removing them let water into my car? Post a picture if you have one of a car with just painted lowers.
Thanks,
Cory

RE: Lower Rubber Trim
Prob better to replace the rubber you have and then paint. Behind the rubber are clips which hold it onto your door and then one screw at the end. If you wanted to remove the rubber strip, you would have to remove the plastic clips, and thengrind off the rivets or whatever that were holding the clips on. Then fill in the hole for the screw. Then make it all look perfect and respray your door etc. So you either want to replace the rubber and paint it or get side skirts I think.

But mine are tearing at the back edge and getting crappy. Also, I have done paint for a few years, and know that paint cracks on rubber. How do yours look?

Mine look fine. There are no cracks on the rubber (yet or ever, time will tell).

So, instead of replacing them, you want to just leave them off? It can be done...there's some guy with a poo colored car (I think...or maybe it's grey) that did that, but he bondoed the holes and then resprayed the whole car. Much simpler to just replace the lowers. I think they're like $35 from ECS.
