Default Low oil pressure 1.8t

My low oil pressure light has been coming on after a few minutes of driving the past few weeks and I took it in to an import shop the other day and they said that after a few minutes of my car being on the oil pressure drops to about 56 psi and normal it should be between 72 and 101 psi. They changed the oil pick up tube and that didn't fix the problem, they said it is a mechanical problem and I am either going to need a new engine or to rebuild mine. Does anyone know of any other options? Is my car safe to drive for short distances? Any recommendations would be appreciated

Second opinion before anything like that. If it is a real engine-replacement (as opposed to oil pump or other part replacement), you'll want to hear it from several places. Have you cleaned the pressure sensor? Or even replaced it? I believe it's on the oil cooler housing.

Not sure what year your car is but Audi gives 2 specs for oil psi on a 1.8 AWM engine.

First is idle warm engine should be 1.3 bar about 19psi.
Second is at 2000rpm warm engine which is 3.5 to 4.5 bar or 51 to 65 psi.

If the pump & screen was replaced & oil psi is still too low , remove valve cover , remove several cam bearing caps & look for signs of wear. If they are scored , time for new engine.

A few weeks ago I took my car to an Audi dealership (terrible idea) to get my oil cooler replaced and to get my cooling system flushed out a bunch and after that I checked my oil before driving it and it wasn't even reading on the dip stick, they didn't put any oil back in my car. So obviously I made them put oil in it assuming they would put the right kind in, but when I looked at it after and the import shop I just recently took it to said the same thing, that it looked way to thin to be the correct oil. They pulled the oil pan and said all that looked clean under there so they didn't change the pick up tube, and they said the sensor was fine so they re hooked it back up and told me it was probably a mechanical problem. Now my low oil pressure light has not came on, Is it possible the wrong type of oil in the car made the pressure to low? Mine is a 2000 a4 1.8t ATW

lol no that doesnt make much sense. These motors are designed to run 0w40. Unless they put water or somethin in there....Did anyone even check the sensor? Mine is covered in green....goo lol but it still works. Definitely pull a valve cover and see whats cookin. Could be a fluke. could be a tragedy. Good luck
