Default Loud grinding noise after bottoming out on speed bump (help!)

What a bad way to end the night. I was heading home and leaving a parking lot where I had to go over an unavoidable large speed bump. I approached it at a coasting speed, literally rolled up and over it, and the middle of my car bottomed out. After the scraping noise a loud grinding started as soon as I was up and over the bump. I immediately stopped and looked underneath the car. Nothing was hanging or appeared smashed up. The noise occurs whenever my car is moving, and i am not applying any pressure to the gas pedal (pretty much when decelerating). It still feels and drives just like it did before the mishap.

I am thinking something got smashed up underneath my transmission, maybe an oil pan or something. Tomorrow morning I am gonna jack it up and see if I can pinpoint the source of the noise. Hopefully I can spot the problem and not have to take it to the shop ( I just got it back last week damn it!).

What is your guys opinions, a lot of you know much more than I do about the under body of our cars.

When I started her up this morning, and then drove around my block...there was no more noise. Maybe because it when it cooled down the metals rested in a different position? Anyway I think it is what you akielb, heatshield above exhaust getting pushed up and rubbing on the drive shaft. I looked underneath it on a jack today and it looked like that shield was banged up.

I am completely avoiding speed bumps from no on.

My opinion is that you ran over an alien and its big head was rubbing up against the drive shaft and the pavement.&nbsp\\; By morning it managed to detach itself.&nbsp\\; Therfore no more noise,&nbsp\\; yeah?

Glad it was nothing major.

Look for a mark on the driveshaft to confirm. Flashlight may be required.
