Riding home on Lake Shore Drive; putting along about about 60mph. No rapid acceleration or such. . ..just riding along. Suddenly, I lose all power. I at first thought the engine had died, but realized it is still running, but rpms dropped to about 2k and could not get above about 20mph regardless of gear.

I am about 5 miles from home and I wonder if I can make it home. I wonder if I have fallen into 'Limp mode". I notice the yellow ECM light is on. I wonder if I can make it home, but decide to pull over at the next exit as to not get stuck on the road.

I pull into a filling station and ponder my situation. Perhaps I can make it home on the back streets. Bleck. i decide to turn off the car and see if it will restart. I kill the ignition and wait about 5 minutes, restart the A4 and all is well.

What the heck happened? ECM light is out, check engine light is not illuminated. Where do I go from here?

I had the same problem recently...still trying to figure it out myself!

 

Damnit, the engine is running fine now. No codes. WTF?
