Engine enamel (500 degree) is what I used. This is after a few coats, no clearcoat, on my car last spring. Just clean them up well before starting. I used a foam brush, sprayed the paint into the paint can cap, and dipped the paint brush into it, then painted them that way.

It is easy. Spray the calipers and pad backings with brake cleaner and use a wire brush to clean them up thoroughly though, before you paint (and make sure they're dry), or the finish will look like hell. You may want to wait a couple weeks for the paint to cure before clearcoating (I've heard that, but in the past I've cleared them once the paint was dry and had no issues).
