Looking to get an A4!
Hey guys, I'm looking to get an A4. The 96-2001(not sure what they go up to...not the newest style) turbo model. I currently drive a Turbo 92 Integra. Are there certain years I should stay away from? Anything I should look for when purchasing? Also, how much boost can the stock internals hold?

Thanks,

I think you should get 99.5 and up, i have a 2000 a4 and runs great, i'm not sure about your second question though...

ps. i really suggest you get a quattro, if you are not planning on getting a quattro then get a fwd passat becuase its the same thing and will probably be cheaper

99.5 is the 'best' year. The 99.5 cars were still Non DBW (more easily tuned, much better throttle response, etc). Plus the 99.5 year cars included all of the nicer updates of the 2000 and 2001 cars (1 piece headlights, better interior, better stereo, hidden washer nozzles, better handles, updated taillights, etc...).

Stock internals are pretty strong on the 1.8T's. It's not a matter of boost, but timing and air fuel. I'm sure you are most likely running a manual boost controller on your turbo teg, but on Audi's BC's are not common, this is because we have some intense chip tuning that increases the boost as well as a/f and most importantly TIMING. I am running 20psi on my stock turbo'd 1.8T, this is with the most aggressive chip. Timing is also very high with this chip.

The aftermarket for these cars is abundant, lots of turbo upgrade options. there is a guy with a VW GTI 1.8T and he was running close to 450hp on his car. That is about th elimit for the stock internals.

I suggest getting a 1.8T quattro-manual of course. 99.5 being the prime year in my opinion.

Just curious- overall the 99.5 Audi A4 and newer was recommended, but I don't think a clear reason why was given.

I'm also interested in buying an A4 96-01. If anyone could elaborate, I'd appreciate it.

The first paragraph is the reason. 99.5 is when they updated it and put in higher quality everything, basically.
