Default Looking at a B5, but no center display. What am I missing out on?

As the title says, looked at a 2001 A4 1.8tqm earlier this afternoon. The center display doesn't work at all, so I was wondering what all I would be missing out on. Also the buttons for most of the center console are sticky as hell, but he told me if I go at it with a toothbrush, they'll be fine. Everything else was pretty solid, it pulled well, has 115k on the odo, and the timing belt/water pump have already been replaced (big selling point).

So basically, is there anything important that I would need to see on the center display?

warning lights, display of the radio station/cd/tape, also on automatic tranny you have the display of the gear position or w/e.

You are missing out on: fuel economy, outside temperature, current gear (if its an auto), speed warnings, and many warnings that can come on... Someone will chime in with all the warnings but there are some serious ones. The sticky buttons are probably a result from someone spilling pop from the dash cupholder, Im not sure if that toothbrush method works or not but someone will also comment on that im sure.

So does this article go over pretty much all of the warnings?

mine works perfect when its cold but when it gets warm the glue or some **** like that on the back of the display doesnt hold the lcd as it should and thats why it gets blurry. there was a diy somewhere out there that showed how to fix the problem but i just dont want to mess it up even more lol

I am not entirely sure, but if I had to speculate you'd have to take the gauges out and replace the screen. Looking over this article, it seems relatively easy enough to get the gauges out, but as far as replacing the screen and how much it would cost, I can't say.

Thanks. I heard if you can get it out you can take it to a computer place and have them replace the ribbon cable and they said it worked perfect. I dont know how much though. I found this too if anyone wants to know. http://www.dnaspeedometers.com/aud.htm
